Low turnout for Tirumala Brahmotsavams TIRUMALA: The nine-day annual Brahmotsavam of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala began on Saturday with hoisting of sacred 'Garuda Dhwajam', by the priests, amid chanting of hymns, atop the golden Dwajasthambham inside the temple.
The ongoing Samaikyandhra agitation seems to have an impact on the annual temple fest with less than 10,000 devotees making it to Tirumala on the first day of the Brahmotsavams.
Till the previous year, as many as 1 lakh devotees thronged the temple town to catch a glimpse of the Lord on the first day of the fete. Chief minister Kiran Reddy presented silk clothes to the Lord on behalf of the state government.
Later in the night the processional deities of Lord Malayappa Swamy along with his two divine consorts mounted atop the golden Pedda Sesha Vahanam were taken around in a grand procession along the mada streets of the temple town.
