Man held for raping adopted daughter Hyderabad: Bowenpally police on Saturday arrested a 42-year-old man for allegedly outraging the modesty of his sister-in-law's 22-year-olddaughter.
The police said that the accused Rammurthy of Srikakulam had adopted her from his co-brother when she was a child and took her to his native place.
Police said that Rammurthy sexually assaulted his adopted daughter at a time when his wife was pregnant. The crime came to light when the victim also got pregnant. On finding this, Rammurthy's wife mounted pressure over him to send the woman back to her parents.
Recently, the accused came to the city and tried to malign the victim's character by telling her parents that he would bring their daughter back as she has been developing relationships with some men. When the parents grilled their daughter over the phone, she revealed her stepfather's sexual exploitation.
The shocked parents lodged a complaint with the police, who later transferred the case to Begumpet women police station for taking further action.
The accused came to the city and tried to settle the issue with the parents of the victim through a compromise, but the police, acting on a tip-off, arrested him and sent him to judicial remand. Further investigations are on.
