CM seeks Lord's blessings for water scheme HYDERABAD: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who sanctioned Rs 5,800 crore worth drinking water project to Chittoor district, sought the blessings of Lord Venkateswara for the success of the scheme.
The project, to be completed in two phases with a distribution network aimed at serving 8,468 habitations in phase-1 and 2,449 in phase-II will ensure treated piped drinking water to people, besides meeting industrial requirements partly.
The head priest of Tirumala shrine Ramana Deekshithulu performed puja for the documents of the 'Unique Trust for Chittoor District's Thirst' project on Sunday.
Huge expenditure is being incurred by the government every year for supplying drinking water through tnkers and drilling borewells. Once the project is completed, it would solve the acute drinking water problem in the district.
The project was designed integrating the existing water supply schemes in Madanapalle, Punganuru, Palamaneru and Tirupati and the Jerrikona project.
'I am blessed by Lord Venkateswara with the privilege of taking up this drinking water project covering the entire Chittoor district. I am abundantly sure that this project will mitigate the acute drinking water problem being faced for decades, both in urban and rural areas in the district,' the chief minister said.
