Four Union Ministers to skip office New Delhi: Four Union Ministers belonging to the Seemandhra region on Monday called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to press for the acceptance of their resignations from the Union Council of Ministers.
HRD Minister M M Pallam Raju, Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi, Minister of State for Railways Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy and Minister of State for Commerce D Purandeswari met the Prime Minister and informed him that they will not attend their offices from Tuesday.
As such, they may be relieved of their responsibilities. The Prime Minister said he would consider the matter and he needed a little time. Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde was present at the meeting of the four Union Ministers with the Prime Minister.
Shinde asked the Union Ministers to remain in office and interact with the Group of Ministers (GoM) and help in finding an amica ble resolution. The Union Ministers said such a stage had passed.
Right now, the situation in Seemandhra is on a boil and what they are doing is a mere reflection of the popular mood of anger in the region. Pallam Raju apprised the Prime Minister of the situation prevailing situation in the Seemandhra region.
The primary grouse of the leaders of the Seemandhra region is that the Centre has not bothered to show any sensitivity towards the plight of the people of Seemandhra region, like they did with regard to Telangana.
Emerging from the meeting, Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi said all the four Union Ministers urged the Prime Minister to accept their resignations.
The resignations reflect the popular mood of the people, he said.
All the four Union Ministers met later at the residence of Chiranjeevi. These leaders will meet again to plan their going into the midst of the people.
Minister of State for Commerce D Purandeshwari emphasised that their move was in no way disrespect towards Congress president Sonia Gandhi. In fact, she said all of them were grateful to Sonia Gandhi for giving them this opportunity to serve in the Union Council of Ministers.
