Heavy rains lash city, throws traffic out of gear Hyderabad: Heavy rains lashed the city on Wednesday throwing normal life out of gear and wreaking havoc in several low-lying areas. The showers measured 9.5 cm by 8.30 pm on Wednesday.
The heavy rains which lasted for over three hours resulted in hardship to people returning home as almost all the roads in the city were waterlogged. Overflowing drains added to people's woes, causing traffic disruptions and inconvenience to commuters.
Traffic was thrown out of gear in several low-lying areas. Several areas like Chintalbasti, LB Nagar, Ashok Nagar, Lower Tank Bund, Kavadiguda, Domalguda, Amberpet, Bathkammakunta, Moazam Jahi Market, Chaderghat, Nimboliadda, Bagh Lingampally, Barkatpura, Salar Jung Colony, Towlichowki, Aditya Nagar, Sheikpet, Hafeezpet, Lakdikapul, Maitrivanam, Erragadda, Fatehnagar, Bahadurpura, Chatrinaka, Dabeerpura and Shahlibanda complained of water stagnation and inundation. Rain water entered into the houses near the Parsigutta area resulting in inconvenience to the families.
A temporary advertisement hoarding fell on the road at Necklace Road. However, there were no injuries reported. The GHMC central emergency wing was flooded with calls from different parts of the city.
With Met authorities forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts in the next 48 hours, authorities have alerted the general public and urged them to exercise caution.
