Car crashes into house killing man watching TV VISAKHAPATNAM: In a freak accident, a 62-year-old retired Visakhapatnam Steel Plant employee died while he was resting at home, when out of nowhere, an SUV (Mahindra Scorpio), suddenly crashed into the compound wall of the verandah, after a driver perfecting his driving skills lost control of the powerful vehicle, at Gangavaram village of Pedagantyada mandal in Visakhapatnam.
The driver, identified as M Polayya (32), borrowed the Scorpio SUV from a friend and was trying to improve his driving skills at around 7.30 am.
He was trying to turn left into a lane, when in a moment of confusion, he stepped on the accelerator instead of the brakes, zooming straight into the compound wall, causing it collapse upon impact and kill a man, who is also incidentally, identified as P Polayya. He was watching television from the verandah, when the vehicle ploughed through the wall.
The retired Steel Plant employee was alone at home and got crushed under the bricks. Neighbours who rushed out hearing the commotion pulled out P Polayya and called an ambulance immediately. However P Polayya died before the ambulance could reach the place.
Newport Traffic Police said that M Polayya is a car driver and has a valid driving license registered in the year 2009. The driver was having his first experience with an SUV and accidentally floored the accelerator and shot into the outer wall of the house.The driver has been taken into custody.
