Hyderabad in grip of rain fury Hyderabad: The very thought of rain is sending shivers down the spine of Saroornagar residents these days after more than 100 houses in P&T Colony were water-logged rendering them roofless over the last two days.
People are waiting with bated breath for the water to recede. With authorities turning a deaf ear to their pleas, most of the families have started living in their relatives' houses at different parts of the city while others have sought shelter elsewhere.
Houses and shops were inundated as a result of heavy downpour. Children were unable to go to schools as their books were soaked. Many hostels located in this colony were completely inundated and the hostellers perched themselves on rooftops without food and water for two days.
'I lost my books and clothes. Even my certificates were washed away in the rainwater and we could not sleep for the last two nights as we kept scooping out water,' laments a student from West Godavari district.
Another college student, a native of Anantapur district, said: 'I took shelter in a nearby community hall.' A few houses were inundated by the water rendering useless gas stoves, television sets, mattresses, refrigerators, computers, and other electrical appliances.
According to some of the affected residents, they could not sleep for two nights at a stretch since they had to mop up their houses before the next morning. Local politicians alleged that the nearby nala was blocked and this had led to the deluge.
