BJP asks GoM to focus on Polavaram, revenue from Hyd
Hyderabd: The Seemandhra BJP leaders in a report to party president Kishan Reddy on Monday sought the area facing submergence under Polavaram project in Bhadrachalam division of Khammam district to be retained with the residuary state after bifurcation to avoid inter-state water disputes.
This apart, they underscored the need to share Hyderabad revenue besides constructing the new capital on priority basis in the report to be submitted to GoM.
It may be mentioned here that both Telangana and Seemandhra leaders of BJP had been engrossed in preparation of separate reports for the past 10 days.
While Telangana leaders completed their exercise and submitted their report to Kishan Reddy on October 23, their Seemandhra counterparts took five more days to finish the job.
According to a senior BJP leader, they mainly focused on Polavaram and Hyderabad issues in their 15-page report.
'We have explained that unless safeguards are taken, it is not possible to complete the Polavaram project. The submerged area that falls in Telangana region, if left as it is, would add to the hurdles.
The newly-formed Telangana government would not be able to complete the land acquisition process to facilitate the project completion owing to huge pressure from political and other quarters.
The land identified for handing over to displaced tribals (in Khammam district) should also be given to the residuary State,' he said.
So far as Hyderabad as common capital was concerned, 'We demand that the Centre expedite the process of construction of new capital in the residuary State at the earliest. Until that time, the revenue from Hyderabad should be shared between both States,' the report said.
They also suggested setting up of a `central administrative authority' monitored by the Union government so that no disputes arise in sharing of Krishna water especially pertaining to Srisailam left and right bank canals.
The BJP leaders also sought an assurance from the Centre on education and employment opportunities for Seemandhra youth in Hyderabad, since it boasts of many central research institutions, PSUs etc.
He further stated that they would be visiting New Delhi shortly to impress upon the national leadership to exert pressure on Union government to address their concerns.
