Action against JC Diwakar Reddy as per RTA, says Botsa Hyderabad: Transport Minister Botsa Satyanarayana clarified that as per the RTA rules, the bus belonged to J C Uma Reddy wife of JC Prabhakar Reddy and action would be taken as per the RTA rules against J C Road Lines.
Speaking to the media, after holding a review meeting with higher officials of the transport department, Satyanarayana said that RTA does not care for the lease agreement. 'The RTA would take action against those responsible as per the MV Act. The bus is registered in the name of Uma Reddy of JC Road Lines,' he said.
However, the minister added that all the RTA cases will be dealt by the Karnataka transport authorities. The State would look at the permits and other issues. The Karnataka minister and the transport officials had also visited the accident spot as part of their inquiry on Thursday, said Botsa.
The minister said even though the permits and other certificates were valid, the state RTA would look at two issues. Boarding six additional persons which is beyond its capacity is the first issue. The second, there should be two drivers in buses as per the rules, but in the preliminary investigation it was found that there was only one driver.
Replying to a question, Botsa said that the RTA authorities have no power to impose penalty on the erring vehicle owners. 'Our officers book the cases, seize them and produce them in the court. The court will impose penalty wherever necessary,' said Botsa.
He appealed to the people that traveling in RTC buses is safer than private buses. 'We have asked the RTC to take up measures to ply buses in different routes and assured them for providing gap funding for procuring new buses,' said the minister.
The minister informed that four bodies were identified and that were handed over to their families. The remaining 40 bodies have been kept in the Osmania mortuary for identification. The minister asked the relatives to give their DNA samples for testing.
A police team, RTA and Revenue officials has been deployed at Osmania, who would help the family members to complete the formalities. Regarding compensation, the minister said that he would consult with the Chief Minister on Friday and decide about announcing the amount.
