State police bag shooting Gold at sports meet

Hyderabad, Jan 17 (INN): Representatives of the state police managed to bag one Gold and one Bronze medal in the individual category at the 4th All India Police (Sports) shooting Championship 2010 was held at Group Centre, CRPF, Kadarpur, Gurgaon (Haryana) from January 10 to 14 , 2011.

The Andhra Pradesh Police Shooting team consisting of 10 Men and 11 Women Police Officers participated in the Championship and has won one Gold, one Bronze Medal in individual events and 5 Bronze Medals (4 ' Women, 1 Men) in team events.

Andhra Pradesh has achieved the rare distinction of winning the Overall Championship for Men among the States followed by Punjab. The Andhra Pradesh Police (Men) got 22 points in Pistol and 20 points in Rifle shooting a total of 42 points and the Punjab team got 8 points in Pistol and 22 points in Rifle shooting a total of 30 points. The Central Police Oorganisations - Indo Tibetan Border Police Force, Border Security Force and Central Reserve Police Force won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively, followed by Andhra Pradesh Police.

The AP Police Women team is also the Overall Champion among the States followed by Maharashtra. The Andhra Pradesh Police (Women) got 14 points in Pistol and 36 points in Rifle shooting a total of 50 points and the Maharashtra got 4 points in Pistol and 28 points in Rifle shooting a total of 32 points.

Among women, the Central Police Organisations, Border Security Force and Central Reserve Police Force bagged the 1st and 2nd places respectively, followed by Andhra Pradesh. It is only last year, 2009, that the Women Police Shooting team has been constituted for the first time in the history of the AP Police by Addl Director General of Police (Sports)Tejdeep Kaur Menon (IPS ).

The Andhra Pradesh Police participated in the 3rd All India Police Sports Shooting Championship held at Jullandhar in October 2009 and won the Overall Best State Trophy among the All India Police States teams. The Andhra Pradesh Police bagged 2 Silver and 13 Bronze Medals, a total of 15 medals in this competition. This is the second time that the Andhra Pradesh Police Women team is the Overall Best team in the States category at the All India Police Sports Shooting Championship.

Since the inception of the sports shooting competitions in police from 2006 onwards, the Men's team of AP Police has been the Best Team.
