Earlier, MS Dhoni made an unbeaten 108 in just 64 balls as the Indian middle order took a heavy toll on New Zealand's weak bowling attack to pile up 360 for five in their second World Cup warm up match at Chennai.
Captain Dhoni hit 11 fours and 3 sixes as he and Suresh Raina (50 in 26 balls, 4 fours, 3 sixes) smashed the hapless Kiwis for 124 runs in a blistering fifth wicket stand that came under 10 overs to take India to a record total at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Earlier, Gautam Gambhir, who hit 89 off 85 balls added 68 runs for the fourth wicket with Dhoni.
India batted on a Chennai wicket that behaved better than it had in the South Africa win over Zimbabwe earlier this week. Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag opened for the hosts, with this being Sachin's first appearance in the WC preparations. After losing Sachin Tendulkar for 17 off 23 balls and Virender Sehwag for 23 off 30 balls, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir steadied the Indian innings as they put on 106 runs for the third wicket. Kohli made a good 59 off 68 before he fell. Chennai, February 16: India beat New Zealand by 117 runs in their second cricket World Cup warm-up match at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday.
