IPL meet on sidelines of World Cup
Mumbai, Feb 25: The top officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) will be in Bangalore this weekend. And it will not be just for the Sunday's marquee World Cup clash between India and England. They will do other business too. According to information, a meeting of the Governing Council of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be held in Bangalore on Saturday afternoon in which a decision on players' request for limited participation in the promotional activities of the franchisees could be considered.
Recently a few players met the top board officials on endorsement-related issues. It was not clear what exactly their demands were but sources say the players were not willing to endorse the brands sponsoring the franchises. 'They seem to saying that they would rather promote only the franchises not the brands sponsoring them,' said a franchise source. A decision on this is likely to be taken at the meeting.
The GC will also consider a request from Pune franchise to reduce the four-match ban on Manish Pandey. They are believed to have written a letter to the BCCI seeking review of the IPL GC's previous decision to ban the Bangalore-based batsman for four matches. A discussion on letters from franchises is one of the items on the agenda. There is also a possibility that the council may discuss a recent Mumbai Indians letter to the IPL seeking clarifications on issues relating to January 8-9 player auction.
