Third Test ends in draw; India win series 1-0
ROSEAU (Dominica): India, which required 161 run in the last session to win the final Test, were at 94 for 3 in 32 overs when the teams agreed to a draw. India needed another 161 runs to score a historic win over the West Indies as they reached 19 for one at tea on the fifth day after Shivnarine Chanderpaul frustrated their victory march with a defiant century in the third and final cricket Test here today.
India, with nine second innings wickets intact, chase 161 runs from 40 overs in the final session after they were set to score 180 to win the Test from 47 overs on a fifth day Windsor Park pitch which seemed not to have deteriorated much.
Opener Murali Vijay (14) and Rahul Dravid (four) will resume the chase for the visitors after the West Indies were all out for 322 in the post-lunch session with Chanderpaul frustrating the Indians with a defiant unbeaten 116.
India lost opener Abhinav Mukund (0) off the first delivery of their second innings after Fidel Edwards won a leg before shout, much to the delight of nearly packed stands.
Vijay steered his nemesis Ravi Rampaul dangerously past the slips for a boundary and then nearly edged a catch to wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh but had begun to find his feet by the tea break.
Dravid too was uncharacteristically fidgety on his off-stump and played and missed too often for a batsman of his class.
Earlier West Indies were all out for 322, giving them a lead of 179 runs over the Indians. The Indians were left flustered by the ninth wicket stand of 65 runs from 37 overs between Chanderpaul and Fidel Edwards (30).
