Knight Riders crush Hyderabad XI
Hyderabad, Sept 13 (INN): A captain's knock by Yusuf Pathan was the high point of a comfortable five-wicket win posted by Kolkata Knight Riders over Hyderabad XI at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here on Tuesday.
The match also effectively rings in this year's Champions League T20 season. KKR, which is playing the qualifying tournament, achieved the 132-run target in 15.2 overs.
On winning the toss, the host team opted to bat. However, the decision boomeranged on them as Benjamin Thomas was dismissed after scoring only one run.
However, skipper Arjun Yadav and Neeraj Bist opened up after two overs of cautious batting. Firing on all cylinders they sent the ball to all corners, the duo put on 61 runs in 7.3 overs. Bist was the more enterprising of the two and his half-century knock comprised of two huge sixes and six hits to the fence.
Although, Sumanth added to the score with a compact 30, Hyderabad XI could only muster 160 runs in the stipulated 20 overs.
KKR began its run-chase on a disastrous note with Srivatsa Goswamy falling after scoring three runs. But, skipper Yousuf Pathan who promoted himself in the order came in and unleashed a flurry of strokes to score a breezy 51 from 38 balls. His knock included four towering hits over the fence. Rajath Bhatia played an admirable foil with his chirpy 41.
