In fact, having survived the 20 overs was a measure of success for Redbacks. The hallmark of the match was the tidy spells by Warriors' bowlers, who were backed by splendid fielding.
Although they lost a couple of quick wickets, the Warriors, who are putting up an impressive showing in the championship, were given impetus by handy knocks by Colin Ingram (34) and Marck Boucher (30).
Man of the match, Smuts, who dominated the bowling all through his 65-ball stay, used the long handle to perfect levels to make 88 runs. His belligerent innings was studded with ten hits to the fence and two towering sixes that landed in the stands.
He singled out seasoned campaigner Shaun Tait for special treatment to the extent that Tait finished as the most expensive bowler with his 1/53 from his four overs.
