Hockey Australia has already tied up with premier broadcaster ESPN-Star Sports for exclusive live coverage of the championship.
The Lanco International Super Series is a newly-created tournament, which has a revolutionary new format and new rules to make the game faster and more exciting. It is already being hailed as hockey's answer to cricket's Twenty20 format and has been named as Hockey 9's.
Fresh from their Asia Champions trophy triumph, India will be fielding its full-strength men's and women's squads to the tournament. The men will take on Australia, New Zealand and arch-rivals Pakistan while the women will play Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia.
Hockey Australia Chief Executive Mark Anderson is hopeful that the excitement will come as a welcome breather for the game.
