India's unbeaten run continues MUMBAI: The domination was complete and the Indian juggernaut continued to roll on. The home side registered their fourth successive win when they humbled England by six wickets to take a commanding 4-0 lead in the five-match one-day series at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
Winning the toss, England batsmen came a cropper once again. The Indian bowlers did an excellent job by dismissing England for 220 in 46.1 overs. The spinners ' Ravichandran Ashwin (3 for 38) and Ravinder Jadeja (2 for 41) ' throttled the top and middle order. Debutant Varun Aaron (3 for 24) showed pace and aggression to polish off the tail.
India made short work of the target as Virat Kohli (86 no) and man of the match Suresh Raina (80), in a sizzling 131 runs fourth wicket stand off 113 deliveries, set the ball rolling in favour of the home side. India reached the target in 40.1 overs, with 9.5 overs to spare. It was India's first win over England at this venue.
Alastair Cook won the toss but India called the shots from the start. Cook fell very early, lbw to off-spinner Ashwin. Kieswetter followed the skipper in the next over with Praveen Kumar trapping the batsman plumb in front.
Jonathan Trott, top scorer at Mohali with an unbeaten 98, and Kevin Pietersen produced the best partnership of 72 for the third wicket.
Vinay broke the pair by castling Trott. Ashwin bowled tight, particularly in the two power-plays, and Pietersen could not break away from his shackles before sweeping the bowler and substitute Manoj Tiwary brought off a fine air-borne catch at deep mid-wicket. Ashwin's final wicket came in the batting power-play that of Samit Patel.
Left-arm spinner Jadeja continued his good work with ball. He was spot on and scalped the wickets of Ravi Bopara and Jonny Bairstow. Holding back Aaron till the batting power-play was completed, Dhoni brought back the debutant bowler in the 40th over. In a fine three over spell, he cleaned up left-hander Scott Borthwick, debutant Stuart Meakar and last man Tim Bresnan.
In India's chase, Parthiv Patel, Ajinkya Rahane and Gautam Gambhir fell early. Finn bowled at good pace to dismiss Patel and Gambhir. Rahane was out to a brilliant catch by Kieswetter off Meaker. But the in-form Kohli and left-hander Raina plundered the England attack.
Raina was in aggressive mood, reaching 50 off 50 deliveries and then the next 31 runs came off 12 deliveries before he became Finn's third victim. But by then India were on course.
