Hong Kong Cricket Sixes to begin on Oct 28 Hyderabad, Oct 24 (INN): The tournament that features cricket's biggest contemporary hitters is round the corner.
Having feasted on the splendid series triumph over England, all eyes of the Indian fan will now be focused on the Karp Group Hong Kong Cricket Sixes 2011 that will get underway at the Kowloon Cricket Club on October 28.
The three-event like always has attracted lusty hitters like Sanath Jayasuriya, Herschelle Gibbs, Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzak and Jacob Oram.
This year's edition will have 12 teams. The All Stars have been drawn with Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Scotland in Pool A. Defending champions Australia are in Pool B with England, Bangladesh and Ireland while Pool C comprises last year's losing finalists Pakistan, South Africa, India and Hong Kong.
The Indian team for the tournament is yet to be announced. In a release here on Monday, leading sports broadcaster, ESPN Star Sports, announced that it has acquired the broadcast rights for the live telecast of the tournament, including on the Internet and mobile domain. The rights, according to the company, have been acquired for the next three years.
The matches will be aired live, 6.15 am (IST) on October 29 and 30. The first match shown live would be between Pakistan and Hong Kong. The redeeming feature of the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes event is that barring the wicket-keeper every player has to bowl one over each.
