Kohli's 'dirty finger' may attract censure SYDNEY: Virat Kohli, the Indian batsman, could face possible disciplinary action after a middle-finger gesture to a section of the Sydney Cricket Ground crowd during the second day's play on Tuesday.
Kohli was photographed raising his middle finger as India struggled to contain Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke during the course of their 288-run stand, the highest fourth-wicket partnership ever compiled against India in Test cricket.
According to Level 1 of the ICC's Code of Conduct, a player found guilty of "using language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting" can be fined up to 50 per cent of their match fee.
The matter has not yet been spoken of by the on-field umpires Marais Erasmus and Ian Gould or the match referee Ranjan Madugalle, but if it is raised the 23-year-old Kohli could be censured.
A similar incident was seen in the English Premier League when Liverpool's Luis Suarez was banned for a match after indecently gesturing at a section of Fulham's fans.
