Sachin's no show disappoints fans
VISAKHAPATNAM: Thousands of fans at the ACAVDCA stadium here were disappointed when 'master blaster' Sachin Tendulkar did not play in Monday's match between Mumbai Indians and Deccan Chargers.
Tendulkar, who injured his right middle finger off Chennai Super Kings bowler Doug Bollinger, however came to the ground and was greeted with roaring cheers from frenzied crowds.
The ace cricketer made it a point to sit in the dugout throughout the match and cheered his team Mumbai Indians.
The stadium witnessed cricket-lovers, who dared the blazing sun and sultry heat and going restless to get a glimpse of Tendulkar.
'We came down to watch Sachin in action, but are upset over the news of his not being a part of the match,' said an elderly lady, with a pall of gloom shrinking her already wrinkled face.
Suresh from Vizianagaram was as disappointed as others.
'I had come all the way from my home town to watch my idol and it's disheartening to see him in the dugout rather than the field.'
However, for young artist K Rahul Ranjan, it was a dream-come-true since Tendulkar visited his gallery late on Sunday night and was in awe of the former's creative vision.
The maestro was evidently pleased with Ranjan's paintings and gave an autograph on one of the artworks.
On Saturday, Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni too visited the art gallery, which was on display at the entrance of the stadium. 'I couldn't ask for more in my life than this,' Ranjan said.
After giving a miss to the first match due to the England- Lanka Test series, Kumar Sangakkara was back from Sri Lanka on Sunday to lead the Deccan Chargers.
Also to play his first match was leg spinner Amit Mishra, a doubtful starter because of a side strain. Coach Darren Lehmann had announced on Saturday that Mishra may not play in the match.
As many as three Hyderabad players - Ambati Rayudu, Pragyan Ojha and Tirmulasetti Suman played for Mumbai Indians in the Monday's match here. Both Ojha and Suman had played for Deccan Chargers earlier, but are now part of Mumbai Indians.
