Jadeja has impressed as a bowler
CHENNAI: Two-Test old Ravindra Jadeja has already sized up the difference of Australia's and England's batsmen. 'Australians have this ego. They try to play more positive. If they have played three-four maiden overs, they show their aggression, so that they don't come under pressure,' he said.
Remarkably, in both his Tests, he has shouldered as much a burden as the specialists' bowlers. In Chennai, he bowled 62 overs, 10 more than Harbhajan Singh and just eight less than R Ashwin.
He has so far picked as many wickets as Harbhajan (four) in this Test and at a better average and economy. So did he in Nagpur, where he bowled 70 overs (the corresponding figures of Ashwin, P Chawla & P Ojha were 62, 47.5 and 75).
Impressive reciprocation of his skipper's trust, though his batting hasn't looked the part. Jadeja admits he was nervous against Australia, 'I played 45 balls, I was set and 20 more minutes I would have made more runs.'
In his defence he has his domestic numbers, particularly this season, in which he made two triple hundreds. 'I scored two triple centuries this Ranji season and have been batting at No 4 for my State for a long time,' he said.
Despite the knives sharpening at him whenever he takes field, he's comfortable with his role in the side. ' As I play more matches, I'll learn more from playing on different wickets. I'll seek advice from my teammates, besides adding variations to my game,' he said.
He is unfazed about people's expectations. 'I only think what I should do for India that is to score runs and take wickets. If I do only one of the two, my image of an all-rounder won't be there,' he said.
