Ongole, October 2nd: A major sports facility and stadium is required in Ongole, said AP Police Academy Asst Director Sri K Raja Sikhamani on Thursday. On the occasion of Vijaya Dasami, Ongole Town Volleyball Club conducted Women Invitation Volleyball Tournament at Kendriya Vidyalaya Grounds in Ongole to encourage the local talent. Raja Sikhamani inaugurated the event and spoke at length about the need to have sports facilities and stadiums in all major towns in Andhra Pradesh.

All the good and International level stadiums were built in Hyderabad and now they are part of Telangana, he said. After bifurcation, development of sports facilities in the Seemandhra region are required to promote sports and to encourage local talent, he said.

Specially the Prakasam district do not have any full-fledged stadium, sports tracks on par with the ones in other districts of the state. Though Ongole is the capital of the district, it has no proper platform for sport aspirants to practice. The mini stadium is under construction for several years remains unusable without basic facilities.

Raja Sikhamani also advised upcoming sports players about good diet can help you get the best fitness and sport results. These tournaments will help teams get the much-needed exposure and also give an opportunity to assess their strengths and weaknesses, he said in his inaugural speech.

Similarly hosting such event in cities of AP would help the local players in the long run, said by the Tournament organiser B. Srinivasu.

A Total of 4 teams participated in Women Invitation Volleyball Tournament. The tournament which was scheduled to be held on Aug 29 on the occasion of sports day, was postponed owing to incessant rains.
