SC Railway felicitates Sportspersons


 
Hyderabad, Jan 28 (INN): South Central Railway General Manager PK Srivastava, who is also the Chief Patron of South Central Railway Sports Association (SCRSA), felicitated SCR's sportspersons including international and national stars and Arjuna Awardees at a glittering function organized at Railway Officers Club, Secunderabad.

The felicitation function titled as 'Surmaiyee Khel Ratnon Sang', held on Tuesday evening, saw the presence of stalwarts like Pullela Gopichand, former Badminton player and Coach, Mukesh Kumar, former Hockey player and Shyam Sundar Rao, former Volleyball player and coach. S.K. Agarwal, Addl. General Manager/SCR, Gajanan Mallya, President/SCRSA & Sr. Deputy General Manager/SCR, Rakesh Aron, Vice President/SCRSA & Divisional Railway Manager/Hyderabad Division and K. Sivaprasad, General Secretary/SCRSA & Chief Engineer (Construction)/SCR were also present.

Addressing the railway sports fraternity, Srivastava called upon them to make continuous efforts to excel in their arena and bring glory to the Nation and Railways in particular. He expressed his happiness and applauded P.V. Sindhu, badminton player and Mithali Raj, captain of Indian Women cricket team for being conferred with the coveted Padma Shri award recently. The General Manager expressed his appreciation to all sportspersons for taking the SCR Zone to the top rankings in various national level sporting events amongst all Zones on Indian Railways.

On this occasion, the SCR GM, along with other dignitaries, released a brochure on SCRSA, detailing the sportspersons credentials and infrastructure facilities on the Zone.

Pullela Gopichand, speaking on the occasion said that SCR has always been doing commendable work in promoting all forms of sport by providing employment to sportspersons and upgrading the sports infrastructure on regular basis. He called upon the railway sportspersons to strive hard and do justice to their job as well as sporting activities.

Mukesh Kumar exhorted the sportspersons to excel continuously, without just banking on the laurels achieved so far. Gajanan Mallya, President/SCRSA & Sr. Deputy General Manager/SCR, presented a detailed report on the achievements of SCRSA and the plans to strengthen the sports infrastructure on the Zone. S.K. Agarwal, AGM/SCR also spoke.

Later, Srivastava, GM/SCR felicitated Arjuna Awardees P.V. Sindhu (Badminton), P.V. Ramana (Volleyball), V. Ravikanth Reddy (Volleyball), Mithali Raj (Cricket), J.J. Shobha (Athletics), V. Tejaswini Bai (Kabaddi) and Mamatha (Kabaddi). The General Manager also felicitated the SCR sportspersons and coaches for their participation in international and national events.
