Indian Seed Congress in Hyderabad Hyderabad, Feb 21 (INN): The two-day Indian Seed Congress (ISC) 2011 is all set to kick off at Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) in the city from Tuesday with an aim to crystalise the industry's views and seek policy support from the government to encourage investment in technology and infrastructure, devise free market principles and to streamline the deregulation process of new breed of crops.
ISC National Organising committee chairman G V Bhaskar Rao stated that the event will see Governor ESL Narasimhan, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Minister for Agriculture Vivekananda Reddy attending. More than 700 delegates are expected to take part in the Congress, including about 50 delegates from abroad. He added that the National Seed Association of India, the apex body of Indian seed industry, would be organizing the second edition of the ISC.
Mr Bhasar Rao said the Congress intends to deliberate on impending Legislation and policies that impact the seed industry, take stock of new and emerging technologies and review technological preparedness. He hoped that many path-breaking tie-ups will be materialized between Indian and foreign seed companies during the course of Congress.
The focal theme of Congress is `Partners in Agricultural Growth' to showcase how the Indian seed industry in active partnership with all, has been driving the agriculture growth of the country. ISC Convener M Harish Reddy said that Indian seed industry has become fifth largest in the world with an estimated value of Rs 8,000 crore and an annual growth rate of 12-13 percent.
