Number portability a gain for BSNL Hyderabad: About 54,000 customers migrated to the BSNL from other networks under the mobile number portability facility introduced recently even as the government-run mobile service provider lost 17,000 customers to its competitors. As per the latest TRAI study, the BSNL added the highest number of 3.37 lakh new mobile customers in AP in January this year. However, some private operators are reportedly causing hurdles to the customers migrating to the BSNL network.
'We came across certain cases where some operators created problems to customers while shifting to the BSNL. Such issues are being taken up with the authorities at the highest level. We hope that the private operators stop such tactics as customers always prefer the operator who provides the best service,' said BSNL-AP chief general manager Rajiv Agarwal.
The BSNL is also making fast progress in 3G connections and already has about 1.38 lakh customers in the State. Though 3G was considered a luxury service by many cellphone users, the entry of new players and popularity of new applications were expected to boost 3G users in the state, the CGM said.
The BSNL today launched a new prepaid plan '3G Nestham'. It has all features of the 2G Nestham plan for voice and SMS communication, including Family and Friends and free monthly SMSes. Customers of 2G plans can migrate to 3G Nestham by sending the message, 'M3G120', to 53733. Then they can use the migration voucher of Rs 36 to migrate to the 3G Nestham plan with Rs 30 talk value.
All new 3G customers will get 2,000 SMSes (local/national), 500 MB of 3G data download and 100 minutes of Video Call within the BSNL network for free within the first 30 days. For broadband users, the BSNL launched two new schemes - BBG Combo ULD 850 Plan and BBG Combo 1000 Plan - with unlimited broadband connections. It has also launched a 2G plan 'Match' where the customer is charged 1 paise per second for local and STD calls to all networks.
