PVR to start 5-star multiplexes Chennai: Combining the comforts of a five-star hotel with film viewing, PVR Cinemas may soon come up with 'luxury multiplexes' for the uber rich. 'We're in the process of developing the concept of luxury multiplexes. Our idea is to provide five-star hotel facilities in the theatre for the discerning customer. The concept will be a step ahead of our Gold Class range and will offer something new in film viewing,' said Pramod Arora, group president of PVR Cinemas.
PVR will target metro cities like Delhi and Mumbai for the luxury multiplexes. The investment as well as the ticket charges will be higher compared with the existing categories of screens, he said. PVR's Gold Class screens provide facilities like 180-degree leather upholstered reclining seats, multiple cuisine options, mocktails and lounge area with books and original art displays.
PVR Cinemas has screens like premiere, mainstream and talkies for different sets of viewers. Of 142 screens, 30 per cent are premiere, 50 per cent mainstream and 20 per cent talkies. For its regular multiplexes, it plans to add 60-80 screens in 2011-12 at an investment of Rs 100 crore. While the existing tier I cities will see more screens next fiscal, seven new towns, including Surat and Udaipur, are also likely to get PVR Cinemas.
