IT Towers in Ranga Reddy district soon: Ponnala Hyderabad, April 2 (INN): The Kiran Kumar Reddy government is planning to construct an Information Technology tower in Ranga Reddy district to cater to the needs of the future requirements of the IT sector. Obviously this comes as a 'competitor' as against the Hi-Tech city built by the IT savvy former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu who had laid a strong foundation for the IT which was seen as a modern growth engine.
Not lagging behind the current dispensation who saw the need to construct a 50,000 square feet IT Tower in Warangal and the ones in Tirupati and Visakhapatnam separately in one lakh sq feet. Thus all the three regions in the state would have one IT tower each, explained IT Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah at the Secretariat on Saturday. Mr Lakshmaiah had returned from the United States recently.
The IT companies located in the two tier locations such as Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Vijayawada and Tirupati would be given additional incentives and facilities for expansion with a view to generating employment.
Among the cities of the world, Hyderabad has been ranked 19 by the New York Times based on the international airport connectivity to Gachchibowli, Madhapur, Uppal and other areas which had been described as the IT hubs. Besides, the basis for the ranking was the cosmopolitan culture, state of the art technology, infrastructure, man power and cost competitiveness among others. Besides this, Hyderabad has been endorsed as one of the 41 'must visit' cities in India.
Exports effected from Visakhapatnam were put at Rs 786 crore with 95 IT units, Vijayawada Rs 65 crore with 37 IT units, Kakinada with 22 units exporting Rs 12 crore worth and Tirupati with 8 units, the exports were worth Rs 3.5 crore. Efforts were on to set up three IT companies in Warangal, Mr Lakshmaiah revealed.
Earlier, the growth was confined to Madhapur, Gachchibowli and Nanakramguda, known as Cyberabad. The Minister explained that today the Kiran Kumar Reddy government, had spread the IT activities to all over Hyderabad ' namely Pocharam, Uppal, Shamshabad, Jawaharnagar among others.
Describing the IT potential, the Minister said the job generation in the IT sector was responsible for providing employment in logistics, maintenance, infrastructure, tourism, hospitality industry and entertainment sectors.
The Minister earlier released a book in Telugu ' 'IT Velugulu ' AP the most preferred IT destination' which elaborates the initiatives the government had taken to promote the IT sector, growth of SEZs which the Centre had approved in 2006.
Out of the IT SEZs, 43 have been notified and out of 43, 17 became operational, Mr Lakshmaiah stated. As per the current status report in the 17 SEZs as many as 94 IT units have been functional employing over 48,000 personnel over the last two years, the IT Minister informed.
He also reeled out data stating that AP stood at fifth place in the country during 1996-2004 with seven percent share of National exports and five percent National share of IT employment while during 2005-2011 the state was ranked 4th in the IT sector with 15 percent National share of exports and 12 percent share in IT employment.
