Three new ports to come up in Srikakulam
Hyderabad, June 28 (INN): The Chief Minister on Tuesday gave the green signal for the construction of three new ports in Srikakulam district, another one in Narsapur of West Godavari district, besides nodding for the sanction of Rs 300 crore for the Tirupati International Airport.
The Chief Minister, at a review meeting on Ports and Airports at the Secretariat on Tuesday, approved three ports to be built in Bheemunipatnam, Kalingapatnam and Vamanapadu in Srikakulam and another in Narsapur in West Godavari district.
Land survey will begin in Kalingapatnam and Bheemunipatnam and open tenders would be called to begin with. Besides this, the government would speed up works which were already in progress for the Bandar port in Krishna district, within a fortnight.
The land allotment henceforth would be effected as per new rules and regulations, said Minister for Ports and Airports Komatireddy Venkatareddy briefing media persons after the review meeting.
For developing Tirupati International Airport, the Airports Authority of India has sanctioned Rs 300 crore, Mr Komati Reddy disclosed.
An amount of Rs 100 crore has been earmarked by the state government for land acquisition, roads, power and other infrastructure. Similarly plants were afoot to develop International Airport in Visakhapatnam and the state had already written to the Centre for appointment of 200 technical staff for the airport construction.
He also informed that the Chief Minister has decided for supply of piped gas to start with in Kompally in Shamirpet mandal near the city. Union Minister for Urban Development S Jaipal Reddy would be invited to inaugurate a function for release of piped gas to domestic households.
Srikakulam, considered the most backward district in the state, would have the sea linkage facility if the proposed three new ports are constructed as stipulated.
The government is as well determined to develop the district as a trading centre and even fixed Rs 1,000 crore as targeted income. The district is been located on the 1,000 km coast line of Andhra Pradesh and the prospects are considered quite good.
