Pick AP for setting up Centre's FAB unit: CM to Sibal


 
Hyderabad, July 2 (INN): The state government on Saturday urged the Centre to look most favourably at Andhra Pradesh while choosing the location for setting up the two proposed FAB facilities.

In a letter to Union Minister for Communications, Information Technology and Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy pointed out that the state is in the forefront of Electronics manufacturing and chip design.

The presence of ECIL, DRDO, DRDL, Midhani, BHEL, HAL, AMD R and D facilities and many electronic component manufacturing units in the state are evidence of the state's prowess in this sector, the Chief Minister pointed out.

"It is heartening to note that the Government of India, under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has decided to set up to two FAB facilities to augment the growth and development of Electronics and Hardware industry in the country,' Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy said.

'I take pleasure in informing you that FAB City located in Hyderabad is the first dedicated SEZ for semiconductor and semiconductor related manufacturing activities in India. This facility is developed in a sprawling 1200 acres of land with SEZ and non-SEZ area,' he added.

The Chief Minister continued, 'We have taken every step to provide world class infrastructure to make FAB City an ultimate platform for global semiconductor manufacturing investments to carry out their manufacturing activities.

So far 15 companies were given allotments in the SEZ. Solar Semiconductor which is the first anchor company commenced its commercial production exporting their solar PV panels to global markets for more than two years.'

He urged the Union Minister to give highest priority and for Andhra Pradesh as the location for setting up the proposed FAB facility by the Centre in light of the presence of a well developed eco system for Semiconductor and Hardware industry in Andhra Pradesh.

Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy further assured that the state government will extend its fullest support in providing every infrastructure requirement for the prestigious FAB project in Andhra Pradesh".
