AP to promote Forts as tourist destinations Hyderabad, Oct 27 (INN): Forts in Andhra Pradesh - Kondapalli, Penukonda, Guthi, Gandikota, Kondaveedu and Chandragiri will be developed in a major way, Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao said.
The Chief Secretary on Tuesday reviewed the progress of development of Kondapalli Fort, Krishna District and interacted with the Officers of Tourism Department. Prl. Secretary Tourism N.K. Prasad informed the proposed conservation and restoration of Kondapalli Fort including tourist amenities in Krishna District near the capital city Amaravati. Proposal to develop the Fort in Phase-I was briefed by the Prl. Secretary in the meeting.
The proposed Fort has to be developed in three phases. Facelift with landscaping at entrance to the Kondapalli fort, restoration, re-development of columns, arches and other elements of durbar hall, dancing hall, central fountain, pond, areas with landscaping signage boards, entrance arches, solar fencing and lighting etc., will be taken up in the Phase-I with an estimated cost of Rs.10.90 Crores. Kondapalli is census town in Krishna District located near Ibrahimpatnam and 16 KMs from Vijayawada.
The Chief Secretary issued instructions to process and to finalize the tenders to award the work and the broad framework for completion of first phase is one year. As far as the sound and light show programme is concerned, the Prl. Secretary, Tourism informed that to start the work for sound and light show programmes by March, 2016 and to work out on the Ropeway forest clearances are required to identify the land and to finalize the feasibility report, so that, the same can be monitored.
To develop and renovate the Bapu Museum at Vijayawada, the Government of Andhra Pradesh sanctioned Rs. 30 lakhs to take up the works and the works are to be completed before December 2015. Bavikonda / Thotlakonda Buddhist monastic places are to be ready near Visakhapatnam before January 2016 end. By December 2015, one heritage circuit starting from Bangalore to Tirupati and one circuit from Bangalore to Hyderabad and to Vijayawada, another circuit from Visakhapatnam and all the circuits will be made operational. Archaeology Department is requested to come up with a comprehensive plan and to develop and mark the remaining Archaeological Sites in Andhra Pradesh like Penugonda, Gutti, Kondaveedu Projects as part of the next year's sub plan.
The Chief Secretary issued instructions to the Prl. Secretary Tourism to strengthen the Engineering Wing and if necessary, take the help of Medical Infrastructure Corporation, Educational Infrastructure Corporation, where they have less number of works and entrust some of the works and show progress and also instructed to review the whole project and present a plan of action of expenditure by the next meeting. Under the complementary infrastructure, against budget allocation of Rs.70 Core, Rs.58 Crore is sanctioned and the expenditure so far is poor.
Krishna Rao directed the Officers to train the Tourist guides in three languages with the detailed background of the tourism spot. Chief Secretary also reviewed the status of Tourism Projects, progress of construction of beach resorts, jungle resorts and budget hotels. Promoting the Andhra Pradesh as International Tourism place ' an APEX scheme has been launched for partnering national and international tourism stakeholders for promotion of tourism in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Secretary added.
