No need to discuss defections, says Speaker Hyderabad, Sept 24 (INN): Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker G Prasad Kumar has downplayed the issue of party defections, stating that it is a common occurrence in politics and should not be given undue significance.
Prasad Kumar remarked that leaders have been switching parties after winning elections since the BRS government came to power. He added that if something new happens, it should be discussed, but as this has been going on for a long time, there is no need to overemphasise it.
The Speaker's comments come in the wake of petitions filed by BRS MLAs in the High Court seeking action against Danam Nagender, Kadiam Srihari, and Venkata Rao, who recently defected to the Congress from BRS. The High Court had instructed the Speaker to take action against the defectors within four weeks or face intervention from the court.
The Speaker's latest remarks have sparked curiosity in political circles, especially in light of the recent High Court order.
