Two CMs hold cordial talks on water Hyderabad, July 16 (INN): Andhra Pradesh Irrigation Minister N. Ramanaidu stated that the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana held discussions in a friendly atmosphere over the inter-state water-sharing dispute during a key meeting held today.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Ramanaidu said the talks focused on the allocation of water from the Godavari and Krishna rivers. The meeting was chaired by Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Paatil and attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
Both states agreed to install telemetry systems to measure water flow from reservoirs under the Krishna River basin to various canals. The meeting also addressed the repair and safety of the Srisailam project, with both Chief Ministers committing to its protection.
A decision was taken to establish the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, and the Godavari River Management Board (GRMB) in Hyderabad, Telangana. Ramanaidu added that the proposals from both states also covered several technical aspects.
The meeting also reviewed the status of the Banakacharla project. A high-level committee will be formed by Monday to assess both the Banakacharla and Polavaram projects.
