Salman's sister ties the knot It was one of the big fat weddings in the celebrity circles in the recent past. Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's sister Arpita Khan on Tuesday entered into wedlock with businessman Aayush Sharma at a grand gala star-studded ceremony at the Hotel Taj Falaknuma, the royal palace of erstwhile Nizams in Hyderabad. The celebrations kicked off with the 'baraat' at 4.30 p.m. in the heritage hotel located in the old city area.
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's sister Arpita's marriage with businessman Aayush Sharma was a grand gala affair
The 'baraat' included horses and two bands, one from Delhi and one from Hyderabad. Salman's father and popular writer Salim Khan, mother Salma, brothers Arbaaz, Sohail and other family members, including Arbaaz's wife Malaika Arora Khan, son Arhaan and his sister-in-law Amrita Arora, received the baraat. It was followed by the 'jaimala' and 'phere'.
The bride and groom exchanged the 'varmala', with the family members, including Salman Khan standing beside them. And the Bollywood hero took care of all the rituals as a responsible brother beside the family.
The wedding rituals are being performed as per Punjabi Hindu traditions. Well-known designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla have designed the wedding dress for Arpita, while Katrina Kaif's make-up artist Daniel Bauer does the bride's make-up.
Falguni and Shane Peacock have designed the outfits of the bride and groom for the reception, while Raghvendra Rathore did it for the Sangeet. Top stars from Bollywood and Tollywood, and businessmen were among the 250 guests invited for the wedding.
It was not clear which stars are attending the wedding as a thick security blanket was thrown around the hotel. While police were managing the outer security ring, the actor's personal guards and others were keeping a tight vigil inside the hotel.
However, the guest list included who's who of Bollywood including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone, besides several political bigwigs.
The wedding ceremony was followed by a grand party in the night, where Salman and his stepmother Helen performed. Punjabi singers Mika and Yo Yo Honey Singh also enthralled the guests. Seven folk artists from Rajasthan and many more from Mumbai were specially flown in for the Tuesday night's party.
The menu at the party was very special, but obviously Hyderabadi. Typical Hyderabadi cuisine like Biriyani, 'Haleem,' Pathar Ka Gosht and double-ka-meetha, were among the popular Deccani cuisines served at the function. Hundreds of Salman fans, including young girls, gathered outside the hotel to catch a glimpse of the stars.
The fans, including some from Mumbai, mobbed the vehicles entering the hotel. The Khan brothers have booked the entire Taj Falaknuma Palace, Hyderabad for two days (18 and 19 November) and have reportedly shelled out Rs 2 crore alone for that.
