Strike threatens Pongal releases Tollywood is hit by strikes by film federation unions demanding wage revision and wants to stop on hiring workers who are not part of the Andhra Pradesh Film Industry Employees Federation.
The association members, representing the 24 crafts, have reportedly expressed displeasure at employment regulations and are insisting that the filmmakers hire services of only members who are registered in their association.
Although The Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce responded to the demands of workers and announced a wage hike of 32%, workers were annoyed with this development as it won't be applicable for budget films.
As a result, their non-acceptance has resulted in a strike and it is affecting the shooting of several soon-to-be released films like NTR Jr-Puri Jagannath's Temper (January 9), Pawan Kalyan-Venkatesh starrer Gopala Gopala (January 14), Allu Arjun-Trivikram Srinivas's untitled film (February 5), Prabhas-Rajamouli's Bahubali (April, 2015) and other small budget films.
Filmmakers are displeased with the goings-on and are worried about the fate of their films. 'We have pumped in crores of rupees and now with this strike, I may land up in financial trouble. The Producers Council should step up and sort out the issues ASAP,' reveals a producer on condition of anonymity.
