Salman Khan's Jail Sentence Suspended In a major relief for actor Salman Khan, the Bombay High Court on Friday suspended his 5-year sentence in the 2002 hit-and-run case and granted him bail pending his appeal against conviction.
Accordingly, Salman will not be taken into custody, proving a major relief for the actor who was granted two days interim bail after his sentencing last Wednesday. The term of interim bail was to expire on Friday (today). The judge directed him to surrender before the trial court and furnish a fresh bail bond of Rs 30,000.'Khan will have to approach the sessions court during the day as his two-day interim bail period ends'today.
'We cannot take pleasure in the fact that someone is in custody. There is no law that says if there is alcohol (in blood) it is culpable homicide,' the justice said, adding, 'This is not a case where the accused needs to be kept in detention.
Other side a fan of Salman Khan attempted suicide by consuming poison outside the Bombay High Court premises here on Friday when the actor's bail plea in the 2002 hit-and-run case was being heard.A man in his 20s is said to have consumed poison and is being taken away to the hospital.
Salman was accused of ramming his Land Toyota Cruiser into a roadside bakery shop, killing one person and injuring four others sleeping outside on the pavement.
