Popular singer commits suicide
In a sad incident a 38-year-old popular Punjabi singer committed suicide by hanging himself with a ceiling fan at his home. Punjabi singer Dharampreet, known in rural Punjab for sad songs, committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence in Bathinda town, his family said on Tuesday.
Dharampreet's mother found him hanging when she with the help of neighbours forced open the room door at10 am'on Monday.He was under depression for quite sometime, as his career was on a decline and he was upset about it. It's learnt that he was suffering from depression. Neither was there a suicide note, nor did the police receive any complaint.
Coming from a poor family from Bilaspur village in Moga district, Dharampreet released his first audio album in 1993, which soon made him a household name in rural Punjab.Dharampreet had released around 15 albums over his decade-long career and was exceptionally popular among the rural masses.
An FIR under section 174 of the IPC was lodged and the body had been handed over to the family after post-mortem.People from the Punjabi music industry expressed shock and grief over the demise of the singer as the news broke out.
