Titanic & Avatar music director died in plane crash James Horner, the Oscar-winning composer of Titanic, has died aged 61 in a plane crash in southern California. Horner who was an avid pilot died in a single-fatality crash of his personal turboprop aircraft at the age of 61. Horner omposed scores for super hit films Avatara and Titanic.
Horner's score for Titanic is the bestselling orchestral film soundtrack of all time while Titanic and Avatar, both directed by James Cameron, are the two highest-grossing films of all time.
He has also collaborated multiple times with directors Jean-Jacques Annaud, Mel Gibson, Walter Hill, Ron Howard and Joe Johnston. ''Brilliant Composer James Horner, friend & collaborator on 7 movies has tragically died in a plane crash. My heart aches for his loved ones," wrote director and colleague Ron Howard on Twitter.
Horner composed music for over 100 films, and won two Academy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Satellite Awards, three Saturn Awards, and was nominated for three British Academy Film Awards.
Horner won an Oscar for his work on the song "My Heart Will Go On" in historical drama "Titanic." He was also nominated for an Academy Award six times for blockbuster movies including "Apollo 13," "Braveheart" and "Field of Dreams''
