Popular director held for Idol smuggling Well-known Tamil film producer and director V Sekar was arrested by the Idol Wing, Economic Offences Wing for suspected role in an idol smuggling racket. Sources say that he has smuggled 8 Panchaloha idols and he also provided shelter for the men who are behind this business.
Earlier in January eight idols were stolen from three temples ' two from Tiruvannamalai and one from Kancheepuram districts. The police had arrested small-time production manager Danalingam in connections with the case on May and the investigation led to Sekar. Police recovered eight panchaloha antique idols soon after the arrest of the small-time production manager in May.
Sekar, who was arrested from his residence in K K Nagar, has been remanded in Puzhal central prison after being produced before a metropolitan magistrate court in Egmore.
Sekhar had often worked on multi-starrer family dramas portraying middle class households.' Sekar is the producer of many blockbuster films, including "Aalukkoru Aasai", "Varavu Ettana Selavu Pathana", "Veettoda Mappillai" and "Ellame En Pondattithaan".
