Five-day training on maritime economy for IES officer trainees concludes at VPA Visakhapatnam: A five-day training programme on 'Maritime Economy and Port Management' for Indian Economic Service officer trainees concluded at the Visakhapatnam Port Authority on Friday.

The programme, which began on June 8, was inaugurated by VPA Chairperson J.S. Bindra. It was designed to give participants exposure to the maritime sector, port administration, infrastructure development, logistics, blue economy initiatives, and policy frameworks driving India's maritime growth.
During the valedictory function, officials said such capacity-building programmes help future economic policymakers understand the maritime sector's role in national economic development. The training provided a platform for interaction with experts, policymakers, industry leaders, and senior port professionals.
Over five days, trainees attended sessions on Maritime India Vision 2030, Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, maritime connectivity, blue finance, environmental management, infrastructure development, cruise tourism, public-private partnerships, logistics, rail and road connectivity, and dredging for enhancing port competitiveness.
A key feature was practical exposure through field visits to various facilities of VPA and Hindustan Shipyard Limited. The visits gave trainees first-hand knowledge of port operations, maritime infrastructure, shipbuilding activities, and logistics systems.
Sessions were delivered by academicians and experts from Indian Maritime University, Research and Information System for Developing Countries, Railway Board, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Mumbai Port Authority, Dredging Corporation of India Limited, and VPA.
The officer trainees said the programme integrated theoretical learning with practical exposure and broadened their perspective on the maritime and port industry. They appreciated Team VPA for the hospitality and arrangements.
VPA Chairperson J.S. Bindra, along with Chief Vigilance Officer Arun Prasad T. and Secretary M. Sankara Babu, distributed certificates to the participants. Mr. Bindra and Mr. Prasad conveyed their best wishes to the officer trainees for their future endeavours.
