Police chief announces new DCP for Vizag Visakhapatnam, Dec 8 (INN): Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy on Thursday announced another Deputy Commissioner of Police post for Visakhapatnam zone.
Addressing a press conference at Police Commissioner's office in a maiden visit to district after assuming charge as DGP, Dinesh Reddy said the decision was taken to lessen the burden on incumbent and to streamline the administration.
He also said the government was also making efforts to appoint a one Deputy Superintendent of Police for each Assembly constituency in the state.
The DGP said that the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) based at Madhurapudi airport in Rajahmundry in East Godavari district would be used in Maoists' affected districts to track down their activities in Andhra-Orissa border apart from North-Telangana districts of Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam. He said the UAV images would be helpful in tracking the Maoists even in dense forest areas.
In the recent past, he said the Maoists have been trying to make their presence felt, especially in places like Narayanpatnam and Vizianagaram. As a precautionary measure, security has been beefed up for VIPs belonging to these districts, Dinesh Reddy said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Purna Chandra Rao and other senior police officials were present in the conference. Earlier, the DGP reviewed the situation in Andhra Orissa Border region with his department officials at the DCP office.
