Visakhapatnam: The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a Google data center in Visakhapatnam will be held on April 28.
This facility is being established with a massive investment of $15 billion. Work on the project will officially commence on the 28th of this month.
Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu, IT Minister Nara Lokesh, and Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian will participate in the event. The government has allocated 601.4 acres of land at three locations in Visakhapatnam for the data center.
The project is expected to become operational by July 2028. This project is being undertaken in partnership with Google subsidiary 'Raiden Infotech' and 'Adani Infra', aiming to position Visakhapatnam as a global connectivity hub and boost sectors like healthcare, education, and agriculture through advanced AI-driven digital infrastructure.
The data center will have a capacity of 1 GW and will be connected via subsea cable links to Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and 12 other countries. This investment is Google's largest-ever outside the United States, and it's expected to create substantial economic and societal opportunities for India and the US.
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian described the Visakhapatnam project as the company's "largest AI hub investment anywhere in the world outside of the US".
The investment is expected to create substantial economic and societal opportunities for India and the US, with Google committing to responsible AI development and deployment. The project is part of Google's broader Asia-Pacific expansion, which includes upcoming data centers in Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand
