Man, son, held for killing daughter's suitor
East Godavari, May 9 (INN): Police on Monday arrested two relatives of a girl who strangled a 26-year-old youth for insisting on marrying her and then dumped his body on the banks of the Gowthami Godavari Canal in East Godavari district after packing it in gunny bags. The honour killing came to light on Monday, ten days after the murder was committed.
According to Sub-Inspector Suresh Babu, Aluri Durga Bheem Shankar, a resident of Bheemilapalli village in Uppalaguptam mandal in the district was killed by the father and brother of Mudunoori Pushpavathi (22) for insisting on marrying her.
The accused, Seetharamaraju and his son VVS Santosh Verma had killed Shankar and then packed his body into gunny bags and left it on the banks of the canal on April 29. The boy's parents had filed a missing complaint and the police zeroed in on the killers after taking into account the events leading to his disappearance.
Police said that Seetharamaraju had fixed his daughter's marriage to a man of his own caste. When Shankar came to know about this, he informed his parents that he was keen to marry Pushpavati. His parents had then spoken to Seetharamaraju on the phone, but the conversation ended in a telephonic fight.
Undaunted, Shankar had proceeded to his beloved's residence and insisted that he would marry Pushpavati. Seetharamaraju and his son VVS Santosh Verma had then taken him to the outskirts of the village and then strangled him, when he refused to heed their warning.
The police picked them up after noting Shankar's parents' version and interrogated them. They confessed to their crime and also led the police to the spot where the body lay, undetected for the past ten days.
Police registered a case under Section 302 and 201 IPC against the offenders. They were produced before a Court for remand.
