TRANSCO to install 765 KV substation near city Hyderabad, May 27 (INN): Following successful talks with the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, the AP Transco will install a 765 KV substation near Hyderabad to meet the power demand as part of its expansion plan.
Talks had been going on between The AP Transco and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd for erecting the cited substation near Hyderabad. Another 765 KV substation would be constructed for evacuating power from 4000 MW Vodarevu Power Project of APGENCO, so that power supply can be affected without interruptions to Hyderabad.
This was revealed by AP TRANSCO MD Ajay Jain to media persons at the Secretariat on Friday, where he said that the state has already met a peak demand of 11829 MW during this year and a peak requirement of 265 MU per day. The peak demand is expected to reach around 17000 MW by 2015, Mr Jain stated, adding that if the GDP has to grow by 10 per cent, the power sector has to grow by 12 per cent.
Mr Jain further disclosed that the AP power utilities, AP TRANSCO and AP DISCOMS have drawn an action plan to meet this peak demand from agriculture, domestic, commercial and industrial sectors.
Around 6000 MW is going to be added in the next four years and the APTRANSCO will construct 170 substations at a cost of Rs 6000 crore for this. The AP DISCOMS also have a plan to construct 1400 33kV substations along with associated lines at an estimated cost of Rs 8000 crore within four years.
AP TRANSCO has also taken up a plan to commission 52 EHT substations during the current financial year. After a review, Mr Jain observed that man-power would be required to construct these substations and lines. There is a severe shortage of skilled man-power for foundation, erection and stringing of towers and lines. It is estimated that around 1000 skilled workers would be required.
AP TRANSCO has decided to tie up with the Labour and Training Department and the ITI's to identify the youth and get them trained for the job. SC, ST youth were to be given priority in the training programme, he said.
