Rahul Gandhi asks Modi to give Special Status Hyderabad, Oct 19 (INN): AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare Special Status for Andhra Pradesh while laying the foundations stone for its new capital Amaravati on October 22.
In his letter sent to the Prime Minister on October 17, Rahul Gandhi pointed out while the UPA Government has included Special Status for AP in the AP Reorganisation Act itself at the time of bifurcation. He said the then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has announced Special Status for AP on 20 February 2014 in Rajya Sabha. The proposal was approved by the Union Cabinet and was sent to Planning Commission for implementation.
Rahul Gandhi said despite completion of more than one year, the NDA did not implement the promises which include Special Status for residuary State. He said Andhra Pradesh has been facing acute financial crisis and it is unable to carry out developmental programmes. He said that the Centre should immediately intervene and help the State.
He hoped that the Prime Minister would announce sops for Andhra Pradesh at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Amaravati.
