NIMH to celebrate 'International Day of Persons With Disabilities' Hyderabad, Dec 2 (INN): The National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped (NIMH), Secunderabad is observing International Day for Persons with Disabilities on Thursday.
On this occasion NIMH is organizing 'Ability Exhibition" and Cultural Programs from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm to showcase the abilities of Persons with Mental Retardation.
The NIMH is functioning under the administrative control of Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. It is an apex body to undertake human resource development for delivery of services to the persons with mental retardation and to serve as a documentation and information centre in the area of Mental Retardation. As part of its objectives, NIMH also undertakes need based research projects / activities.
The NIMH is allotting stalls to NGOs on first cum first served basis. Each stall can accommodate five persons to display their vocational potential / activities. The main purpose of this event is to create awareness in the public about the abilities and talents of persons with Mental Retardation and their rights as Indian Citizen.
NIMH is also observing an "Open Day" on Thursday. As part of which all the general public are welcome to come and witness the activities and services being provided at NIMH as part of intervention and rehabilitation services to the persons with Intellectual Disabilities.
