Five eminent poets get Maqdoom Awards
Hyderabad, Dec 14 (INN): The Telangana Government on Monday gave prestigious Maqdoom Mohiuddin Awards to five eminent poets, writers and journalists for the years 2010-2014.
The Maqdoom Award consists of Rs. 1 lakh cash and a citation.
The recipients of prestigious national award are prominent poet Rashed Ali Khan alias Rashed Azaar for 2010, Padmashree Dr. Jeelani Banu (Urdu fiction) for 2011; Dr. Syed Dawood Ashraf (Criticism & Research) for 2012; Bharat News Service founder Aijaz Qureshi (Journalism) for 2013 and Shugoofa Editor Dr. Syed Mustafa Kamaal (Urdu Humour) for 2014. Life Time Achievement Awards were also given to 14 Urdu personalities for the years 2012 and 2013.
Eminent journalist Aijaz Qureshi had established Bharat News Service in the year 1954. He is also a founder-member of Urdu Academy and had also served as its Secretary-Director. He had also served as founder-President of AP Sports Journalist Association, President of AP Film Journalist Association and founder-member of Press Reporters Guild. He has been writing features and editorials for different daily and weekly newspapers and have won several awards in the past.
The Maqdoom Awards were given in a function organised by Telangana State Urdu Academy on Monday evening. It was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy, MLC Mohammed Saleem and senior officials of State Government.
