50 school children receive Abdullah Qureshi Al-Azhari Award

Hyderabad, Dec 20 (INN): As many as 50 students were conferred a special Moulana Abdullah Qureshi Al-Azhari Award for memorising 20 Surahs of Holy Quran.

The award, instituted in memory of former Imam and Khateeb of Mecca Masjid Hazrath Abdullah Qureshi Al-Azhari, who passed away recently, was given to students of Al-Siddiq High School (under the management of GC High School) on the occasion of their Annual Day celebrations held on Sunday at Sahana Function Hall in Kishan Bagh. "Since not every child can become a Hafiz, we made 50 children memorise 20 Surahs of Holy Quran and conferred them the special award as an encouragement. They were felicitated along with their parents on the occasion," said Syed Moinuddin, Chairman, GC High School.

Further, a total of nine students, who are undergoing Hifz, were given scholarships of Rs. 1,000 each. The GC High School has a policy of giving Rs. 1,000 per Para as scholarship to students who are memorising Holy Quran.

The students also performed a Qawalli and made different presentations highlighting the Islamic culture, tradition and achievements of Muslim scientists and mathematicians.

Addressing the gathering, Moulana Abdul Qavi, Shaik-ul-Maqulaat of Jamia Nizamia, praised the management of GC High School for implementing the unique concept of amalgamation of Islamic and conventional education. He also appreciated the institution of an award in the name of Moulana Abdullah Qureshi Al-Azhar.

Career Guidance Council CEO Syed Munawwar Quadri asked the parents to play a responsible role to ensure that their children achieve their set goals and targets. He said that the parents need to sync their thoughts and actions with their children to ensure success in their careers and turn dream into realities.

Moulana Mohiuddin Quadri, Khateeb of Qutb Shahi Langar Houz, also addressed the gathering and appreciated the concept of making children memorise at least 20 Surahs which are usually recited while offering prayers.

Speaking on the occasion, TSCBOA President Syed Nizamuddin said imparting Islamic education in schools has become inevitable these days especially in view of intolerance being exhibited by some communal elements in the country. He said children could learn the lessons of tolerance and effectively counter baseless criticism if they are well acquainted with the Seerat (life) of Prophet Muhammed (PBUH). He said Islam is the religion of peace and brotherhood and anyone who loves Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) will never indulge in any kind of violence or hatred.

Meanwhile, the GC High School Chairman announced that the management would continue to initiate measures to promote Islamic education among masses, especially school children.
