Fearing Arrest Passenger Left 3.1 Kgs Gold On Plane The fear of being caught by the customs officials forced a passenger leave behind 3.1 kg of illegally smuggled in gold, on the seat of the airplane. The passenger whose identity is yet to be revealed was onboard an Air India flight that arrived in Shamshabad airport from Dubai.A small pipe was noticed under one of the seats after the passengers had got off the plane and when police opened the pipe 3.1 kilos of gold in the form of biscuits was found encased inside it.
Officials seized the smuggled gold and are trying to establish the identity of the passenger who carried this with him.The case is under investigation. The Rajiv Gandhi International (RGI) Airport has become a favorite port of entry for gold smugglers. The quantity of gold seized and number of smuggling cases booked by Customs sleuths have doubled in the 2014-15 financial year.
