Judge Accused in Gali Bail Scam Dies Former judge D. Prabhakar Rao who was an accused in Mining Baron Gali Janardhan Reddy's cash-for-bail scam died under mysterious circumstances at his residence in Hyderabad.
Prabhakar was a family court judge in Srikakulam when he was arrested by the ACB for his role in striking a deal for getting bail for Janardhan Reddy. Prabhakar Rao was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in July 2012. He was one of the three serving judges to be arrested in the cash for bail scam. He was suspended in July 2012. CBI had exposed an alleged deal of Rs.10 crore for granting bail to Janardhan Reddy.As the trial is going on, Prabhakar got bail and was contesting his case stating he was innocent.
Police have registered a case under suspicious circumstances and were investigating if it is suicide or a natural death. The body was shifted to government-run Gandhi Hospital for autopsy.
Meanwhile ruling out suicide angle in the death of Prabhakara Rao his wife Dr Marilyn Prabhalatha have said that it was a case of cardiac arrest.She said, "My husband was innocent and framed in the bail scam case. He felt tortured all these days. The false allegations of his involvement in the case had pained him and the family. But he didn't commit suicide as he was not a coward"
Prabhakar Rao is survived by wife, daughter Dr Susan, and son David Prashant.However relatives of the retired district judge suspect that he may have taken the extreme step.
