The suicide of Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula is creating sensation throughout the nation. Politicians of all parties are making a beeline for the campus visit and expressing solidarity for the students who launched hunger strike.
Andhra Pradesh opposition leader YS Jagan today visited the campus and he had a talk with student leaders and inquired details about the incidents that led to the death of the scholar. Jagan lambasted interference of union ministers in the case. Jagan also strongly condemned the justification of suspension of the scholars on the grounds that they participated in a protest.
"Is that any anti-national or terrorist activity?" he questioned and also expressed concern about the negative campaign launched on Rohit's caste.
Why they are concerning on caste of the student who already ends his life? What's the benefit they are getting by misleading saying Rohit belongs to BC community? Any type of discrimination a crime and it is not acceptable?
He assured the support to students who launched protest demanding revocation of suspension on four other Dalit scholars. Meanwhile several national level leaders are set to arrive to campus on Wednesday. Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati and Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Sitaram Yechuri will expected to come Hyderabad today.
